KUCHING: A manhunt has been launched for an armed robbery suspect who pulled off a brazen, pre-planned escape from the district police headquarters here yesterday.

Deputy district police chief Supt Abang Junaidi Abang Anuar said the incident happened around 1.30pm when the suspect, Zulkipli Morni, 34, and two other detainees were at a security post awaiting to be sent back to prison following an earlier court appearance.

According to him, Zulkipli somehow managed to uncuff himself and ran out the main gate of the police headquarters.

“Police personnel stationed at the security post chased after the suspect, but he jumped into a waiting white sedan car which sped off to the main road and disappeared,” said Abang Junaidi when contacted.

It is learned that the suspect, from Taman Puteri Phase II in Bandar Baru Semariang, had earlier been charged in court for armed robbery under Section 394/395 of the Penal Code.

The suspect was last seen wearing a pair of blue jeans and maroon-coloured shirt.
