LAWAS: A total of 355 illegally-felled logs were discovered during an operation by Sarawak Forestry Corporation in Long Sukang, here last Friday.
A statement yesterday said a team from Trusan was dispatched to the scene following information of suspicious activities taking place there, and came across an illegal logging operation.
A thorough search of the area yielded a total of 355 logs of various sizes and species, amounting to some 600 cubic meters in volume.
The logs were believed to have been illegally felled from a nearby forest where the license to log had expired, the statement added.
A police report was lodged at Lawas Police Station, while the logs were handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
