KUCHING: Teams from all divisions – Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang and Royal Malaysia Police – will vie for the 2017 Sarawak Cup from Nov 4-12.

The tournament will be hosted by Mukah in three venues: Stadium Mini Mukah, Padang Mesra MDDM and Padang Kampus UiTM Mukah.

Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) vice president cum secretary-general Razali Dolhan said Mukah was chosen as the venue due to its strategic accessibility to all divisions and also for having adequate facilities.

Yesterday, Dolhan received the tournament challenge trophy from Lea Sports Centre (LSC) Sdn Bhd senior operation manager Poh Siok Hoon at Sarawak Plaza Shopping Complex.

LSC has been a corporate partner of FAS for over 20 years in areas such as competitions and development programmes

LSC will sponsor 10 teams with its Starsport kit and the Puma ball as the official tournament ball for this year’s Sarawak Cup. FAS vice president and organising chairman Cassidy Morris noted that the tournament is a good platform to identify potential players for the Sarawak team.

Meanwhile, he called on all local fans to turn up in full force for Sarawak’s final match of the 2017 Super League season against T-Team on Oct 28.

“We want all fans to fill the stadium and don their red shirts. We hoped for undivided support for our team. The match tickets are now available. The offer is still the same ‘Buy one ticket and you get one ticket free’,” he said.

On a related matter he said FAS is awaiting a favourable reply from Football Association of Malaysia on its appeal for Sarawak to play in next year’s Malaysia League.

Also present at yesterday’s ceremony were FAS Exco member Abang Abdul Rahman Abang Naim and LSC senior manager Alice Kho.
