JULAU: The people here and in the surrounding areas are expected to enjoy sufficient treated water supply soon as the improvement works at Julau Headworks and Reservoir are progressing ahead of schedule.
Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat was informed of this during a briefing conducted by an officer from Sarikei Rural Water Supply Department, Chieng Kuok Hien, on the progress of the project, yesterday.
He was told that by end of last month (Sept) about 26 per cent of the works had been completed, which is about 10 per cent ahead of schedule.
Rolland thus said the works, which started in mid August, would be completed by December and not in January next year as projected.
The project is implemented with an allocation of RM280,000 from his 2017 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund.
The upgrading works also involves the installation of another two 6,000-gallon storage tanks, two new pumping sets, two wall-mounted 37.5kw automatic transformer starters, and the upgrading of electrical wiring system.
“Once the improvement works are completed, there will be enough water to cater to the needs of the people in Julau and in the surrounding longhouses and SMK Julau 1 and 2,” Rolland said.
He added that he would request for more fund to upgrade water supply in other parts of Meluan constituency.
Officer In-charge of Julau Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Fabian Juna and its assistant engineer Pauline Ajun were also present at the function.
