KUCHING: It was a cruise to remember for more than 20 Korean guests when they were feted to a Sarawak River luncheon cruise hosted by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) yesterday afternoon.

Onboard the cruise were Suwon Football Club (Suwon FC) coaches Choi Youngil, Choi Jinchul and Lee Sangyoon, as well as goalkeeper Noh Jihoon.

The Korean celebrity guests included movie and drama actors Jung Euigap, Jung Taewoo, Park Sangmyun, Yoon Taeksang and Kim Dongyoon, comedian Kim Hakdo, singers Joosuc and Kim Donggyun, as well as other celebrities such as Gu Jamyung and Son Myunggi.

STB’s acting chief executive officer Mary Wan Mering, in her address to the visitors, said the occasion was to get to know popular Korean personalities in order to share with them what Sarawak has to offer.

“We would also love to have these celebrities to bring their families, friends and their fans to visit Sarawak and to stay longer to explore the unique cultures, adventure and nature that Sarawak has to offer,” she added.

Choi Jinchul, a former national football player, recalled visiting the country during his playing days but had only experienced Kuala Lumpur and nearby football stadiums.

He said it was his first time in Sarawak and that he was enjoying his experience.

“I am lucky to get to know about and experience Kuching and its culture through STB,” he said when met during the cruise.

As for Park Sangmyun, he said he was enjoying his Kuching stay despite the busy schedule, particularly the calmness of the river cruise along the Sarawak River.

Suwon FC recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kuching Football Association (KFA) to sponsor players from KFA to train with the club in Suwon city, starting next year.

The MoU signing was witnessed by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
