Royston, Aziza top winners of Sarawak Youth Awards 2017

BETONG: Royston Valentine and Aziza Aznizan are this year’s recipients of the ‘Sarawak Youth Awards 2017’ – a programme meant as a medium to recognise the roles played by Sarawak youths and also to get them closer to the government.

The presentation ceremony was held in conjunction with the state-level Youth Day 2017 celebration at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan here yesterday.

Royston, 31, from Mukah earned his award for his active involvement in association activities and also in assisting many youth-related activities run in his hometown.

Meanwhile Aziza, 21, who is the ‘Kendo World’ founder, led her association in many humanitarian activities on the international level.

Each of them took home RM5,000, trophy and certificate.

For the award’s ‘Association Category’, Petra Jaya Youth Club came out tops, followed by Laser Light Sports and Recreation Club (Debak). The winning club received RM10,000, trophy and certificate, while the runner-up was given RM7,000, trophy and certificate.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the prizes – witnessed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu; Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
