KUCHING: About 100 coaches involved with the preparations for the 19th Sukma in Perak attended a briefing organised by the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) at a local hotel here last Saturday.

At the briefing which also involved preparations for Suksar or Sukan Sarawak to be held in December, the local and foreign coaches were told to plan their training programmes to include exposure tours so as to get the optimum performance of the athletes during the games.

“Training must be done in stages and plan your exposure trips especially those going outside the country depending on what class of sports you are in,” said Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee.

Ong said there was a need to hold more sports science courses for the coaches and athletes in Sarawak as attending such courses organised by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) in Semenanjung Malaysia would be costly and time consuming.

Also present at the briefing were members of the coaching panel Dr Balbir Singh and Dr S Pathmanathan.
