KUCHING: The state’s digital payment system, Sarawak Pay, is expected to be rolled out next month.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said with Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) approval of the digital payment system, Sarawakians will soon be able to go cashless when paying for their utilities bills.

“With Sarawak Pay, Sarawakians can pay for their electricity bills, water bills and so on using their smartphones.

“God willing, I will roll out Sarawak Pay next month,” he said at the launch of Saradise Kuching here last night.

Abang Johari also planned to link Sarawak Pay with AliPay, the mobile payment system by Chinese Internet titan Alibaba.

“If we can link Sarawak Pay with Alipay one day, then the people can start trading with Chinese merchants,” he said.
