BANJARBARU, S Kalimantan: Chairman of the Family Welfare Movement Team (TP-PKK) Banjarbaru Ririen said the school is obliged to receive the Children with Special Needs (ABK) to get an education, Antaranewsreported.

“The obligation is in line with the mandate of the National Education System Law Number 20/2003 which ensures equal distribution of educational opportunities for all children,” she said in Banjarbaru on Monday.

In addition to ensuring equal distribution of educational opportunities for schoolchildren, she said, the Act also regulates quality improvement, relevance, and efficiency of management of education.

“Including special education and special services for children with special needs who are in special schools and public schools,” she added.

She insisted that education is a basic need of every human being to ensure their survival to be more dignified, so they should get the same treatment.

“The state has an obligation to provide quality education services to every citizen without exception including those with the different ability (disabled),” she said.

According to her, children with disabilities have been provided with special education facilities appropriate to the degrees and types of disabilities called Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) in various levels of education.

“The provision of the facility indirectly hampers the process of getting to know each other among children with disabilities and non-disabled, so they feel alienated,” she said.

She said, the board and members of the PKK Banjarbaru have gained knowledge in dealing with children with special needs, so they have the concept of handling them.
