Indonesian fined for drug abuse, referred to Immigration Department for deportation

MIRI: An Indonesian man was fined RM3,000 in default four months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for abusing drugs.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa also ordered the accused, Sidik Prihanta from Sleman Yogjakarta, Indonesia to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.

Sidik was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of not more than RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years, upon conviction.

The court also ordered the accused to be placed under supervision for a period of not less than two years and not exceeding three years under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

According to the facts of the case, the accused was found to have consumed methaphetamine which is listed under the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He committed the offense at 1.05pm on Sept 13 at the Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.

The prosecution was led by Inspector Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor while the accused was not represented.
