KUCHING: AirAsia launched the first international route from Bintulu to Singapore yesterday. The new route will commence on Dec 27, 2017 with four direct weekly flights.
The introduction of the new unique route is in line with the airline’s continuous expansion plan in Sarawak. Besides adding two new routes to the state, namely Kuching-Shenzhen and Bintulu-Singapore, the airline is also increasing flight frequencies between key routes in East Malaysia: Kuching-Miri now 29 times weekly, Kuching-Singapore to (16 times weekly), and Miri-Singapore (7 times weekly).
To celebrate the launch, AirAsia is offering free seats for bookings made from now up to Nov 12 for flights from Bintulu to Singapore between Dec 27, 2017 to Nov 21 2018, on airasia.com and AirAsia’s mobile app.
Spencer Lee, head of commercial for AirAsia Bhd said: “We are pleased to launch another international route from Sarawak after launching Kuching-Shenzhen early this week. The new route and added flight
frequencies continue to strengthen our position in East Malaysia and further reaffirm our commitment to develop Sarawak, consistent with our current plan for the state.”
“All these will not be possible without continuous support from the government of Sarawak and we are thankful to them. Sarawak has so much to offer beyond tourism, and that is why it is very important for us. Besides contributing to tourism in the state, we believe the Bintulu-Singapore route will also encourage trade and investments between the two cities.”
AirAsia now flies to three destinations from Bintulu namely to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Kuching with a total of 39 weekly flights.
AirAsia is relocating operations at Singapore Changi Airport from Terminal 1 to the new state-of-the-art, fully-automated Terminal 4 to embrace the Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) starting Nov 7, 2017.
