SIBU: Empowering the communication behavioural impact (Combi) volunteer team programme for Sibu District will be held at 7.30 on Nov 11 at a surau in Kampung Hilir here.
A total of 150 participants are expected to attend the programme which aims to mobilise the community to keep their surrounding clean for the prevention of dengue.
It is organised by Sibu Divisional Health Office (DHO) headed by Sibu divisional health officer Dr Muhammad Rais Abdullah in collaboration with village security and development committee (JKKK) of Kampung Hilir 2 as well as JKKK Kampung Padris.
According to JKKK Kampung Hilir 2 chairman Rabek Ali Hamid, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain will officiate at the event.
He revealed that there will be a gotong-royong, while DHO will hold health screening, health talk and an exhibition on that day.
Rabek added that they are joining hands with DHO to promote Combi, aimed at creating awareness among the villagers on the importance of environment maintenance.
“The Combi volunteer team acts to mobilise the community to tackle the dengue issue by adopting the practice of keeping the surrounding clean.
“One of the activities is to mobilise the community in the cleaning up of surroundings through ‘gotong-royong’,” he told a press conference here yesterday on the programme to empower Combi team 2017 for Sibu district yesterday.
Also present were JKKK Kampung Hilir 2 secretary Mohd Safree Mohd Kassim, health education officer (Health Education Promotion Unit) from DHO, Suriati Saperi.
“It’s also to establish a sense of responsibility among members of the community towards taking care of their health and empower the community with the knowledge on Aedes mosquito prevention activity such as identifying and destroying Aedes mosquito breeding ground once a week, identifying ways to protect themselves from mosquito bites and identifying the signs and symptoms of dengue fever,” Rabek added.
He said the SMC will provide plastic bags for villagers to collect their rubbish that day. Lorries from the council would come to collect the rubbish at 10am. “Plastic bottles and unwanted receptacles that can collect water need to be properly disposed off to avoid becoming breeding grounds for Aedes mosquito,” he said.
Besides Kampung Hilir, the other locations for Combi in Sibu district are Kampung Dato Baru, Bandong Road/Abang Barieng Road, PBB Ranting Hilir 2, Rumah Kunsu, Taman Rejang and Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku.
