Mobil wins Open category at SEDC golf tournament

KUCHING: First timer Mobil Mustapha emerged victorious in the open category of the SEDC Trophy 2017 golf tournament at Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) yesterday.

This is the first win for the 17 handicapper, who returned the day with an impressive nett score of seven under par 65 and defeated senior golfer Mohd Said Gapor with two strokes adrift while Awang finished third  with a 4 under par 68. A total of 115 golfers competed in the event.

In the Gross event, Daniel Yeo who played with handicap 5 finished ahead of others with a two over par 74 while Mohamad Lokman Mustafa trailed with 2 strokes adrift and Johari Aman finished third with 78 strokes on countback (OCB).

The winners of the longest drive awards were Abdul Karim Ayub and Dylan Tan while those who achieved the nearest to the line were Ibrahim Nordin, Mohd Shamsuri Sharbini, Mohamad Duri, Mohd Amirul Fadlan, Awang Zailani Awang Bujang, Khalid Hamid and Noah Hassan.

The winners received their prizes from SEDC director of Tourism and Hospitality Division Edwin Abit, who is also the tournament’s organising committee chairman, and DGCC general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh.

The two-day tournament is organised by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to show its appreciation to all associates, partners, stakeholders and members of golfing fraternity especially members of DGCC. The sponsors were Sarabif Sdn Bhd, MST Golf, SEDC properties and DGCC.

Meanwhile, the Invited guests and VIP category will tee off today and among those who had confirmed their participation are SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain and State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
