MIRI: Students of SMK Chung Hua Miri have made their school proud after emerging as the overall champions in the Sarawak Track & Field U-13, U-14 and U-17 competition held in Sibu recently.

They brought home 28 gold, 28 silver and 24 bronze medals with a total points of 410.5.

Its principal Wong King Kui, in a press statement released yesterday, congratulated the athletes on their achievement.

“It was a proud moment for all of us, especially after we had observed the better performance from our young athletes that had accumulated 410.5 points,” he said, adding that previously the school only managed to win 14 gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze medals for a total of 181 points.

“The athletes are focused, hard working and motivated.

“ They are the best example that should be looked at by the juniors,” Wong commented.

He also reminded the athletes the importance of balancing their academic and training.

“Aside from training, students should not neglect their academic studies and that I strongly believed that our students, under the guidance from teachers and support from parents, have the capability to balance both their academic, co-curriculum and sports activities at the same time,” Wong concluded.
