KUCHING: The decision of Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) and its president Datuk Posa Majais to field an all-Sarawak team for the new Malaysia League season has received support from legendary coach of the Ngap Sayot era Awang Mahyan Awang Mohammad.
Mahyan has regarded the decision as a courageous and timely one.
“I agree with Dato Posa’s decision to use 100 per cent local players in the new season.
“I personally think it is not wrong to do so because I also did that during the Ngap Sayor era and we were still able to give a strong challenge to the other teams,” he recalled.
To show his support, Mahyan said he is all set to help the Sarawak coaches voluntarily to search for potential talents to be roped into the state squad.
He will be also going to Mukah to monitor the performance of talented players taking part in the Sarawak Cup from Nov 4-11.
“I am hoping that FAS will be more fair when coming to paying the salaries of the players.
“For that matter, I am suggesting our young players be paid the same rate to avoid discontent from happening that would affect their performance and style of play,” he added.
FAS has decided to terminate the contract of seven foreign and local import players: Mateo Roskam, Demerson Bruno Costa, Milos Raickovic, Sahil Suhaimi, Shahril Saari, Ronny Harun and Ramesh Lai Ban Huat.
Sarawak finished 11th of 12 teams in this season’s top-tier Super League. The Crocs are now relegated to the Premier League next year.
