SIBU:  Sarawak defeated Sabah by 15.5 to 8.5 points to carry off the challenge trophy of the 3rd Senior SGA Cup Golf Tournament on Friday.

The state team led by captain Samuel Tiew led from start to finish for all three days at Sibu Golf Club (SGC).

The tournament was jointly organized by Sarawak Golf Association and Sabah Golf Association.

Sabah was last year’s winner after Sarawak won the inaugural tournament held in Kuching in 2015.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony, Sarawak Golf Association president Hoan Kee Hock said although the weather on the final day was not kind to them, all the golfers were very determined and all played very well.

It was Hoan who first mooted the idea of gathering all the top senior golfers from both Sarawak and Sabah to compete in the annual event.

Meanwhile, Sabah team manager Ranjeet Singh said his team accepted defeat graciously.

He stressed that competition aside, golfing is a healthy sport which serves to foster closer relationship and goodwill among the golfers.

The Sarawak team comprised Hoan Kee Hock, Dato Sri Wong Ing Kee, Bernett Ling Soon Kiong, Sim Kee Hian, Sammuel Tiew, Lau Hie Ping, Wong Lay Nam, Francis Nguoi, Joseph Lau, Zayadi Sebli, Tuan Hj Abang Abdul Rahman, Abdul Aziz Sahari, Michael Lee, Kunuin Sandhu, Ronnie Ling and Jimmie Teo.

The Sabah golfers were Ranjeet Singh, Peter Tan, Ng Loong Fah, Peter Kong, Lim Lam Seng, Dato Yong Yau Pin, Tan Lim, Abdul Malik Diah, Noorsalleh Hj Udin, Jesus Arapoc, Jimmy Tsen, Osman Jalil and Datu Goldiah Keri.

The tournament will be held in Sabah next year.
