KUCHING: Two Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officers detained over alleged involvement in the encroachment of foreign fisherman into state waters were remanded for seven days from yesterday.
The suspects, aged 50 and 53, were produced before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar who allowed the application made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
They are to be placed in MACC custody until Nov 13 to complete the investigation.
No further details on the duo’s arrest were disclosed.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries an imprisonment term up to 20 years and RM10,000 fine or five times the value of the bribe, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
