KUCHING: The High Court here yesterday adjourned an appeal by the public prosecutor against a grandfather and a father, who were both convicted of committing incest, to Nov 30.

Justice Yew Jen Kie ordered both the accused persons to be further remanded in prison as they are currently serving their custodial sentence.

The 57-year-old grandfather was sentenced to a total of 25 years’ jail for raping his granddaughter. His 42-year-old son also received the same length of jail term for raping the same victim, who is his daughter.

They were convicted for raping the 19-year-old girl for the past six years. They had pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan. The prosecutor appealed against the inadequacy of the custodial sentences.

The case came to light after the girl was found to be 25 weeks’ pregnant when she went for a medical check-up in Serian.

She revealed the act and also disclosed that her younger sister was sexually assaulted by their two uncles, who also admitted to the offence. The duo was given maximum 30 years’ jail. All of them were also given the maximum 24 strokes of whipping for the offences.
