KOTA SAMARAHAN: Family comes first for Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts graduate Nawal Shakila Rahim, 26, who had to put off her studies for a year to care for her father.

She explained that before her third semester in 2014, her father Rahim Abdul Karim, 55, came down with a stroke.

As the eldest of five siblings, she dropped everything

and went home to Sabak Bernam, Selangor to be by her father’s side at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

“He is well now, thanks to God, and I have graduated,” she said, adding that she could not carry on with her degree course while her father was stricken with sickness.

She finally graduated yesterday at the Unimas 21st Convocation ceremony.

Meanwhile, Rahim was touched by his daughter’s sacrifice.

“I am happy that Nawal finally graduated after five years. She had to put off her studies to look after me at HKL and at Cheras Rehabilitation Centre while I underwent physiotherapy,” said the former teacher.
