Best graduates rewarded for excellence

The award recipients with Unimas management and STAM representatives.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: STA Mutual Sdn Bhd (STAM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sarawak Timber Association (STA), has been giving awards to the Best Graduating Student and the Best Final Year Project Paper for students studying at the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST) of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and the Faculty of Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia since 2005.

Each of the Best Graduating Student received a cheque for RM1,000, an acrylic plaque and a certificate, whereas students awarded the Best Final Year Project Paper received a cheque for RM500, an acrylic plaque and a certificate each.

For Unimas, the STA Best Graduating Student Award went to Nur Izzaty Mohamad Jamal and the STA Best Final Year Project to Sylvia Liao Hui Chin.

Sylvia’s paper is called ‘Growth and Yield Eucalyptus pellita Trial Plots of Model Planted in Sabal Forest Reserve, Sarawak’.

STA also provides scholarships to local students pursuing degree courses related to forestry and timber trade industry in Unimas and UPM since 2005.

Twenty-one STA scholarship recipients have graduated from Unimas, UPM and Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak since 2008, including Elia Ambrose  yesterday.
