KUCHING: Local badminton starlet Lee Zi Suen was ranked number eight out of the 21 players at the Talent Identification (TID) test for the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) 2018 intake at the National Sports Council Complex in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The 12-year old student of SJK Chung Hua No. 4  was the only girl from Sarawak selected by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to undergo the TID test.

She had trained under Kuching Division Badminton Association head coach Johnny Ng for two years.

“I am satisfied with her performance and I believe she stands a big chance of making it to the BJSS next year,” Ng told the Borneo Post yesterday.

Zi Suen attended the TID test with selected players from Selangor, Sabah, Johor, Putrajaya, Kedah, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Kelantan and Pahang.

“We are placing high hopes on her to carry the good name of not only Kuching but Sarawak as a whole. I am hoping that she can be a source of inspiration and encouragement to the younger players,” added Ng.

Zi Suen trains two sessions at Cross Fit Gym and attends court training every Tuesday to Sunday at  the Stampark  Court, with morning and noon sessions on the weekends.

Among her notable achievements this year are MSS Kuching U12 singles and doubles champions, MSS Betong Girls U12 doubles champion, Sarawak Junior Closed (1st Leg) Girls U12 singles and doubles champions and Sarawak Junior Closed (2nd Leg) Girls U12 singles and doubles champions.

Zi Suen will next compete in the BAM National Junior Inter State U12, U16 Team Championships in Johor from Nov 20-24.
