Drug addict detained over theft and break-in

SANDAKAN: Police here have detained a 24-year-old local man believed to be a drug addict for alleged theft and break-in around this district.

Sandakan police chief, ACP Mohd Azhar bin Hamin, said that the  police have received several reports of theft and house-breaking cases around Mile 7 Labuk Road here in early October and November.

¡@¡@¡@¡§Based on the reports, police carried out an investigation and acting on information, raided a house at Kampung Tinusa 1, Jalan Army Camp Mile 7, Labuk Road at around 9.30 pm on November 6 and detained a suspect.

¡@¡@¡@¡§Police also seized several items believed stolen, kept by the suspect and some that were sold to villagers of Kampung Tinusa.

¡@¡@¡@¡§With this arrest, police believed they have solved six house-breaking and theft cases, while confiscating 35 units of stolen items, all worth around RM12,700 and recovered stolen items worth around RM12,000.

¡@¡@¡@¡§The suspect had also tested positive for drug abuse (methamphetamine),¡¨ he said at a press conference at Sandakan police station, yesterday.

¡@¡@¡@Police are now looking for the suspect¡¦s accomplice, identified as Mohd Sarudin bin Zainal Abidin, 22, who is still at large.

¡@¡@¡@He said both suspects were alleged to have committed a crime at the house of Sekong assemblyman, Datuk Samsudin Yahya, National Service Camp of Bagai Budi at Mile 7, Hassan Nur Rahman Villa at Kampung Tinusa 1, and Kampung Tinusa 1.

¡@¡@¡@Meanwhile, Mohd Azhar urged for public cooperation to continuously channel information relating to any criminal activities around their areas.
