KUCHING: A labourer, who raped his underage sister in-law was sentenced to 15 years’ jail and five strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here yesterday.
The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge framed against him under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for statutory rape, which was committed at about 9.30am on Jan 31, 2015 at a house in Kampung Bako Tengah when the victim was 14 years old.
The case came to light when her parents noticed her physical changes and the fact that she had stopped her period.
The girl, who is the labourer’s wife sister, was six months’ pregnant when a test was conducted on her.
She gave birth on April 16, 2015 and a DNA test showed that the labourer and the victim were the baby’s biological parents.
The custodial sentence was ordered to take effect immediately.
