Miri exponents set for wushu title defence in Sabah

MIRI: The Miri Wushu Association (MWA) is gunning for another victory in the 3rd Sabah Borneo Cup Wushu Tournament from Nov 11 to 13 at SJK (C) Shan Tao in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Chief coach Tiong Ching Chiong said they are sending 35 exponents to the tournament, 11 more than last year, and hoped to win more medals and subsequently retain their overall champion title.

“Despite that the tournament being upgraded to Sabah Borneo Cup level this year from only Sabah Cup Wushu Tournament last year, we are very confident of giving it a good fight.

“Our exponents have been undergoing continuous training in the last one week and are physically and mentally prepared to compete with 131 participants from 13 wushu associations from Labuan, Sabah and Kuching,” Tiong told the Borneo Post yesterday.

Miri exponents are consist of 22 secondary and 13 primary school students from 14 schools – SMK Pujut, Lutong, St Columba, St Joseph, Dato Permaisuri, Lopeng, Riam Road, Taman Tunku and SJK Chung Hua (Pujut, Krokop, Tudan, Tukau and Chung San) as well as SK St Joseph.

Tiong thanked the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin and parents of the exponents for their strong support towards the team.
