MIRI: Dayak leaders in state cabinet must unite to support and vote for the amendment to the Sarawak Land Code, especially those related to Native Customary Right (NCR) including Pemakai Menua dan Pulau Galau (PMPG).

According to native right activist and lawyer Abun Sui, this is the time for them to prove their support to the Dayak community in the state, in protecting their NCR land and PMPG, by putting aside their political differences.

“I was made to understand that at this Dewan sitting, Ba’ Kelalan assemblyman will table a motion to include PMPG in Sarawak Land Code so that there are laws that recognise PMPG,” he said.

“We hope that Sarawak YBs, especially the Dayaks, can support and vote for the motion when the voting is called for, so that it can be passed,” he said in a press statement.

“Whether we like it or not, we must accept the fact that NCR land and PMPG issues are currently the main focus of the Dayak community, especially the Iban, and everywhere you go people are talking about it,” he added.

According to him, Sarawakians especially the Dayak are now keeping tab of every DUN sitting, and their main focus are issues related to NCR and PMPG.

In conjunction with the DUN sitting, a peaceful rally organised by Dayak Iban Association Sarawak (Sadia) Kuching will take place at Kuching Waterfront on Nov 13, to voice the peoples support and urge the peoples representative to vote and approve the motion to be presented by Baru Bian.

Abun said he fully supports the rally and will also participate in it, as well as invite the people of various races, irrespective of their political ideologies, to come and show their support while being part of the rally.

“I wish all the wakil rakyat a happy DUN sitting and happy voting to all assemblyman and women who are working to protect the rakyat and their rights,” he said further.
