SERIAN: Human Resources Minister Dato Sri Dr Richard Riot Jaem has called on the Chinese voters in Serian parliamentary seat to support the government in the coming general election.

The six-term Serian MP, in particular, appealed to the 57 per cent of Chinese voters who did not vote for him in 2013, saying it was time that they follow the footsteps of the Iban, Bidayuh and Malays who “overwhelmingly” supported him.

“I said “overwhelmingly” because I did not lose even in one Bidayuh, Iban and Malay villages in the last election.

“To our Chinese friends in Serian, return to us, stop supporting DAP, which is a Semenanjung-based party.

“My appeal to Chinese voters in Serian, please work with BN, work with me. Do not choose to marginalise yourselves and your community,” he said, at a grant presentation ceremony in Ranchan just outside here today.

On whether he would defend Serian seat in the 14th general election (GE14), Riot said there was no need for him to say it because “there is nobody else”.

“There is no reason why I should be changed. Objections against me are not from among voters of Serian, therefore I am not at all worried.

“Very simple, there is nobody else, only Richard Riot is the BN candidate in Serian. I have performed. I never shirked in my duties to both the people and the BN government headed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“It is as simple as that. I will serve you for the next five years, and I will serve you well,” he said.

He speculated that GE14 is likely to be held in March, saying all indications are pointing to that month.
