PENAMPANG: SM St Michael has once again created a record in the Malaysian Book of Record (MBOR) when the school successfully collected 42,617 old books.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau said the school’s achievement was the seventh and should be emulated by other schools.

He said the school carried out its MBOR project annually.

“The uniqueness of this implementation is the collaboration with the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) with the school,” he said in his speech at the launch of the ‘Largest Old Books Collection Project’ MBOR 2017. He was represented by Barisan Nasional (BN) Penampang chairman Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin.

Madius also said the school had earlier set the 36,000 old books target but managed to supersede the goal.

The project started in June this year.

SM St Michael’s PTA head Datuk Philip Lasimbang said the project involved 1,000 people, including students, teachers, parents and former students as well as community members.

Also present were the school principal Jennifer Asing and MBOR representative Muhammad Shukri Hairon Nahar.
