LAHAD DATU: The body of an 18-year-old youth who was feared drowned following a boat collision at Teluk Tambisan on Thursday, was found yesterday noon.

District Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Apandi Mahmood in a statement yesterday said the remains of Abu Sabri Bin Jalani was found by villagers about 1.30pm, about 50 meters from Sekolah Tambisan Darat’s jetty.

Apandi said his department received a report at 8.28pm on Thursday about a missing person following a sea collision involving two boats at Teluk Tambisan.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) informed that three victims fell into the water following the collision, with two of them being rescued while another person was reported missing and feared drowned.

“Eight fire and rescue personnel, a utility vehicle and a boat were dispatched to the scene for the search and rescue  operation. Four members of scuba diving unit from Tawau, MMEA, police and Civil Defense Force also take part in the operation,” he said.

Apandi, who was the commander of the operation, said the team fished Abu Sabri’s body out of the water and handed it to the police.

He said Abu Sabri and his brother, Asraf Jalani, 16, were in a boat that was steered by Mohamad Yazer, 11, when it collided with another boat at Teluk Tambisan about 6.30pm on Thursday.

The teenagers were heading towards Tambisan Darat from Pulau Tambisan when the collision happened, causing all three of them to fall into the water.
