ALOR SETAR: A policeman was sentenced to 20 months’ jail and fined RM20,000 by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Special Court here yesterday when he was found guilty on two counts of accepting a RM200 bribe in 2015.

Judge Zanol Rashid Hussain meted out the sentence on Azahar Abdul Aziz, 53, who was a detective sergeant at the Narcotics Branch in the Kulim police headquarters, when the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case.

For each of the charges, the court ordered Azahar to serve 10 months’ jail, beginning yesterday, and pay RM10,000 fine in default 100 days’ imprisonment.

However, the court allowed the prison sentence on Azahar to be postponed, pending appeal by his counsel.— Bernama
