SMK Bintulu wins award for best urban secondary school in nation for co-curriculum

BINTULU: SMK Bintulu received several awards during the National Level Co-Curriculum Excellence Award 2017 held at Dewan Bukit Kachi, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Kedah recently.

The school emerged champion in the ‘Sekolah Cemerlang Kokurikulum-Sekolah Menengah Bandar’ category. Its student Joel Laing Luyoh also grabbed the second place in the ‘Murid Cemerlang Kokurikulum-Sekolah Menengah’ in the male category.

Meanwhile in the female category, Jocelyn Neo Hui Lyn was placed fifth. A teacher Ling Sim Hie won the fifth place in the Excellent Co-Curriculum Teacher-Secondary School category.

On behalf of the school, its principal Ananthan Subramaniam thanked all parties including Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, parents, teachers, students, local communities and the government agencies for successfully implementing the cco-curriculum programmes.

“The school also would like to thank the Parent-Teacher Association for continuously giving the moral and financial support for school activities especially in programmes that involve students competing in Peninsular Malaysia and overseas,” said Ananthan.

The principal was delighted with the achievement as it took about five to six years to create a strong co-curriculum management and be the best among the urban secondary schools in Malaysia.

“This success is a result of the high commitment, willingness, ability, and the undivided support from all parties.

“I believed this achievement will motivate SMK Bintulu towards greater enhancement on students’ personality and their thinking skills apart from creating the good image for the school, Bintulu and the state’s education,” Ananthan said.

With the success he said SMK Bintulu has proven that an ordinary school can achieve extraordinary success with extraordinary efforts.
