HONG KONG: Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid, arrived in Hong Kong yesterday for the 9th World Chinese Economic Summit (WCES), a premier international event which aims to enhance the connectivity and business linkages between China and Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean).

The Deputy Prime Minister, who is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the summit, arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport at 1.30pm (same time as Malaysia), accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, was welcomed by Consul-General of Malaysia to Hong Kong SAR, Tengku Datuk Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin, and wife, Datin Hana Sakina Datuk Abdullah Sani as well as senior officials from the Home Ministry.

The two-day summit, themed ‘Managing Global Uncertainty: Exploring New Opportunities’, is also held to commemorate and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the signing of the Asean-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which complements the China-Asean FTA.

It is organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute.
