KUCHING: A 44-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison by the Sessions Court here yesterday for possessing a utility knife two months ago.
The accused, Fariz Abdullah, pleaded guilty to the charge framed against him under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Dangerous Weapon Act 1958.
He admitted to the offence before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad, who ordered the custodial sentence to take effect immediately.
The offence was committed at 11pm on Sept 5 this year at a coffee shop at Jalan Lapangan Terbang here.
Fariz was detained by police after he was found in a suspicious manner, which then led to the discovery of the knife in his possession.
