SIBU: The Borneo Talent Award (BTA) 2017 has achieved a record of sorts for having the most number of entries for its semi-finals on Nov 24, with 54 semi-finalists.

According to organising chairperson Wong Hie Ping, Kuching has 13 entries, followed by Sibu (12), Miri and Kota Kinabalu (10 each) and Bintulu (nine).

“The BTA is into its seventh year and this year, we have the highest number of entries for the semi-finals to be held at Sibu Civic Centre,” she told The Borneo Post recently.

Owing to the big number of semi-finalists, Wong said the semi-finals will start at 5pm instead of 7pm as originally planned.

Judges will be from Sibu, Kuching, Miri, Bintulu and Sabah with one from as far as China.

“BTA also helps to draw tourists to Sibu,” she pointed out, as participants usually bring along their family members or friends.

“In fact for many participants this will be their first trip to Sibu. During our audition in Kuching, we had participants not only from Kuching but also from Kuala Lumpur and Penang who also booked tickets to the semi-finals.”

Meanwhile, the final will be held on Nov 25, also at Sibu Civic Centre.

The annual competition in singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, magic show, mimicking pantomime and acrobatics offers attractive prizes for Talent Star of the Year, the Most Popular Talent Star Award, the Most Entertaining Talent Star Award, the Most Creative Talent Star Award, Special Talent Star Award and Superstar of the Year.
