MIRI: It promises to be the new attraction for badminton enthusiasts.

Even if you are an amateur player, just looking to brush up your skills or keen to compete against other players, there is a new sports complex you ought to check out.

Located at Jalan Piasau Utara 1B and built over a land area of approximately two acres, Star Sports Complex offers 16 badminton courts and is equipped with a range of modern facilities.

“Shuttlers and badminton enthusiasts would benefit greatly in this sport complex, as each badminton court is covered with 6-mm thick rubberised court mats, and they are mopped and cleaned daily,” its manager Brian Lee said while giving the media a tour of the facility.

The complex also works in direct partnership with local badminton coaches to train young shuttlers.

As the year end school holiday approaches, it is organising a camp specially for pupils from primary four to six with a coach to train them. Apart from badminton, the pupils will also learn sports values like team building, Lee added.

Furthermore, students, whether they are in primary school or university and college, can also participate in the ‘Badminton Marathon.’ You just pay a small fee of RM3 and you can play all day at the sports complex from 9am till 6pm.

There is also the dance studio on the first floor which provides dance, Zumba, aerobics and yoga classes as well as a venue for corporate team building activities.

A gym with bodybuilding facilities located on the ground floor (facing opposite the main office) is the pipeline as the sports complex is working with another sports provider to transform it into a fully integrated sports complex.

The sport store, which is located just beside the main office, specialises in Apacs brand of badminton accessories like racquets, shirts, shorts, bags, shoes and strings. There is a current promotion whereby customers can purchase two racquets for the price of one (RM199 only). They can pay an additional RM60 for the strings and grips for the two racquets.

The sports complex places a premium on security and safety for customers with its 24-hour CCTV security surveillance system inside and within the vicinity of the building. Ample parking bays are also provided.

For walk-in customers, the fees are RM12 per hour (before 6pm) and RM18 (after 6pm) from Monday to Saturday.

During Sundays and public holidays, the fee is fixed at RM12 (whole day, before and after 6pm).
