THE Education Ministry has established a strategic alliance with the Royal Malaysian Police to address indiscipline among students, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the cooperation included the appointing of police officers as school liaison officers.

He said the officers visited schools to monitor the improvement of discipline among students and held talks and exhibitions on crime prevention and road safety.

“They also have discussions with the school managements on problematic students and provide advice and guidance on safety, at school assemblies,” he said.

Chong was replying to a question from Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai) who had wanted to know the duties of school liaison officers in helping schools tackle student disciplinary issues.— Bernama
