Additional tarp sheets have been added to cover further the slope on Canada Hill affected by soil erosion.

MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) has arranged an urgent quotation for the contractor to build a retaining wall along Jalan Bukit Telaga Minyak which is affected by soil erosion.

Half of the stretch collapsed after a landslide struck a part of Canada Hill on Monday.

According to a press statement from MCC, it would continue to monitor and assess the situation to ensure the safety of users of the road which leads to the Petroleum Science Museum on Canada Hill.

“We actually received public feedback, suggesting the council put on more warning signs in areas affected by soil erosion.

“Additionally,  members of public asked for additional remedial measures to be taken,” MCC said.

Upon receiving the feedback, MCC’s engineering department immediately carried out site inspection to determine extra precautionary measures apart from the initial steps taken.

“The officers from the MCC department immediately arranged for workers to put up additional tarp sheets to cover the exposed slope affected by the soil erosion so as to prevent it from getting worse and also to stabilise the soil condition.”

MCC had also put up additional warning signs and traffic cones at spots along the closed road to alert motorists of the hazard ahead.
