1,600 food parcels sent to Rohingya refugees

MIRI: The humanitarian aid mission of Rohingya Humanitarian Relief Emergency Fund delivered 1,600 food parcels to Rohingya refugees.

The secretariat of the Sarawak Islamic Association of Malaysia Council (Mapim) Azatul Ridzuan Hassan said the delivery was completed on Nov 5.

“We went to Balukhali camp to deliver 800 food parcels then to Hakimpada camp to deliver the remaining 800 parcels,” he said here recently.

Each food parcel worth RM50 comprises rice (10 kg), dhal (1 kg), cooking oil (1 litre), potatoes (2 kg), onion and salt (1 kg) to last a family for at least 2 to 3 weeks.

Azatul said the total amount of aid worth RM80,000 helped 1,600 Rohingya refugee families.

“We are also grateful to all parties including philanthropists who contributed to the Rohingya refugees,” he explained.

Mapim also built a makeshift ‘madrasah’ (study place) and ‘musolla’ (prayer place) for the Rohingya refugees.

The mission involved the mosques of Darul Istiqamah Kampung Luak, Piasau Darul Ehsan, At Taqwa Miri, An Nur Tanjung Batu and Darul Hana Lambir; and the suraus of Al-Jawahir National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) Miri, Al Kausar Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Miri, Nurul Jamilun Subhi Kampung Pujut Adong, Darul Taqwa Tudan Phase 2 and Darus Salam Bumiko Park.

Other participants were Sarawak Energy Muslim Workers’ Welfare Association, staff and students of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang Miri and members of the public.
