KOTA SAMARAHAN: Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad lauds the spirit of young people and  undergraduates for shunning corrupt practices and their dislike for those who abuse their power.

“This kind of commitment will pave the way for the younger generation to achieve zero abuse of power in this country by 2050,” he told reporters after declaring open Pemarah 3.0 Borneo Programme at Dewan Arena Gemilang DeTAR Putra in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) yesterday.

“The programme is well-accepted and the spirit of the young people shows they hate corruption and do not accept corrupt practices,” he added.

Dzulkifli said MACC was giving due emphasis to the younger generation because they would one day become leaders of calibre, and shun corrupt practices.

“This is the reason why we are targetting youths from higher learning institutions, who will one day lead the public and private sectors or even become the country’s

leaders.

“Later, we will also involve students in primary and secondary schools, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education,” he said.

He added that the eradication of corrupt practices and abuse of power was not only the task of the MACC, but everybody in the country.

At the end of the programme later, he led in the shouting of the MACC 3J’s tagline ‘Jangan Hulur, Jangan Kawtim, Jangan Settle’  (Don’t Give, Don’t Settle), followed by the swearing of oath by the students to shun corruption and abuse of power.

The programme is carried out nationwide with the first one held at Pemarah 1.0 in University Technology Malaysia (UTM) Johor and the second one last week at Pemarah 2.0 in Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Pemarah stands for ‘Pehimpunan Mahasiswa Anak Muda Memerangi Rasuah dan Salah Guna Kuasa’.

The programme at Pemarah 3.0 Borneo in Unimas was attended by 1,300 Unimas students and also students from other higher learning institutes in Kuching.

State MACC director Datuk Badrul Shah Norman and deputy vice chancellor of Unimas (student welfare) Professor Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman were also present at the function.
