KUCHING: A body believed to be that of a two-year-old who went missing from his home in Kampung Ruan Baru, Simunjan was found yesterday.

Desmen Davei was reported missing on November 6, prompting a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation.

Simunjan District police chief DSP Zamzuri Mohamad, when contacted, confirmed that the police had received a call around 7pm yesterday from the victim’s father Davey John.

The latter reported that he was informed by a villager named Jimba Tulis who claimed to have found a corpse at Bukit Ruan while hunting, five kilometers from the victim’s home.

“The decaying body was found clad in a shirt,” said Zamzuri, adding that the body was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary at 9.45pm for post-mortem and identification process.

Meanwhile, according to sources, the family believed that it was the remains of Desmen based on the shirt he wore on the day he went missing.

The post-mortem was carried out at 2pm today.

Following his sudden disappearance, various methods have been employed to locate Desmen, including ritual ceremonies. The SAR operation by various parties was called off after failing to find any new leads.
