KUCHING: A 14-year-old boy was detained by the police for allegedly posting a threat against Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Facebook.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the arrest was made at 2.30pm yesterday by the CID Kuching after the boy’s father handed him over to the Kuching police district headquarters.

The suspect’s father was said to have done so following news that the police were tracking down the suspect.

“A mobile phone belonging to suspect, which was believed to be used to upload the threatening posting, has been seized,” he said.

The suspect was however released by the police after his statement was recorded.

Earlier, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Amer Awal   told the press the police had received seven reports against the posting – four from Kuching and one each from Padawan, Miri and Bintulu, after a dry run exercise in preparation for the World

Islamic Economic Forum at Riverside Majestic Hotel here yesterday.

When asked if there were plans to shut down the page, Amer said the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) were deliberating on it.
