KUCHING: Aspiring local entrepreneurs are advised to be active and focused not only when it comes to promoting their products, but also finding out the facilities and assistance that are available for them.
According to Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh, the government has put in place many facilities aimed at helping Sarawak entrepreneurs in its pursuit towards the digital economy goal.
“One of the reasons why we want Sarawakian entrepreneurs to find out the facilities made available for them is to enable them explore the opportunities and have access to programmes slated for enhancing their skills and capabilities,” he told reporters on Sunday, citing the #InnovateSarawak Entrepreneur Development Programme as one of many that local entrepreneurs could take part in.
“This programme assists entrepreneurs to build their business. We do this to create more Sarawakian entrepreneurs who are successful in digital economy,” he added.
The #InnovateSarawak Entrepreneur Development Programme is run by Sarawak Bumiputeras Technical Education Promotion Charitable Trust (TEGAS), of which Len is the chairman.
Meanwhile, three top participants of the ‘Startup Weekend Kuching-Tourism Edition 2017’ have been invited to take part in the #InnovateSarawak Entrepreneur Development Programme.
The three received prizes from Len during a simple ceremony held at Tegas Digital Innovation Hub in iCOM Square here on Sunday, witnessed by iCube founder and chairman Dato Patrick Liew.
“This Startup Weekend Kuching is a good platform to select qualified participants for the #InnovateSarawak Entrepreneur Development. It connects entrepreneurs, organising teams, and start-up communities around the world as well,” said Len, adding that under ‘Startup Weekend, local entrepreneurs had the chance to form networking with key industry players, as well as to gain knowledge and insight on entrepreneurship through various programmes, idea labs and workshops including how to create a company with the guidance of experienced mentors.
The participants of Startup Weekend Kuching, which ran from Nov 17 to 19, were grouped into seven teams, where they competed against one another in coming up with the best business models and ideas.
