SIBU: A 15-year-old boy was swept away while swimming in a river in Kanowit yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened around 1pm when the teen, identified as Danny Manggie, and a friend went to the wharf at Kanowit bazaar to fish.
It is said that the friend saw Danny jump into the river to swim, and called out to him to make his way back to the wharf.
The victim, a student of SMK Kanowit, appeared to be swept away by the river current and vanished soon after, prompting the friend to lodge a police report.
A search-and-rescue operation, which included Danny’s family members, located the teen’s body around 6.10pm some 20 metres from the river bank where he went missing.
