KOTA KINABALU: The 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M) continues to rekindle the hopes of struggling graduates who are still seeking for jobs. Adziwanti Kuinti, 23, who is a Mechanical Engineering graduate was among the 10,000 jobseekers who had decided to try their luck at the recent SL1M open day at the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Sepanggar.

This is my second time attending a SL1M event. The first one I attended was in Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

“However, since I did not get to do any follow-ups, I did not manage to get any response from any of the companies,” Adziwanti, who hails from Tamparuli, said.

As this is the last instalment of SL1M for 2017, Adziwanti had expressed her hope that she will be accepted as trainee and her fellow graduates would also share the same luck as her.

Adziwanti had brought along her friend Jenevie Mabuin Edwin, 23, to the SL1M event.

However, Jenevie, who is a Sports Science graduate from UiTM Sarawak, said that she had yet to find a job opportunity that is related to her course or today SL1M, I have still yet to find a job that is suitable for my course. Most of the jobs provided were more focused on the business, accounting and engineering industry.

“Nevertheless, I submitted my resumes to whichever company I can,”she said, adding that it is not wise for youngsters to be picky with their jobs at this day and age.

She said she is willing to accept jobs even that is not related to her course.

“Here are lot of graduates out there who are still jobless. Thus, if you want to compete for vacancies, you cannot be choosy. If there is an opportunity, I will take it,” she asserted.

When asked about her preparation prior to attending the SL1M event, Jenevie said that she would tend to focus on companies that have less requirements and criteria.

Dzulkarnain Jununik, a sales executive for Astro, has made it a norm for him to be a part of the SL1M events in Sabah.

He explained that for every SL1M event, Astro will be taking in 150 graduates who would then have to go for another series of interviews.

Have acquired a huge number of employees through the SL1M initiative alone,” he said, adding that most of those employees have performed well in their job.

Upon being accepted as full- time employees, they will also be given additional training to further enhance their skills, he disclosed.

Actually, we (Astro) look for people who really want to work and who will love the opportunity that they will get.

To me, SL1M is such a great programme. We know that there are lots of degree and diploma holders out there who are still jobless, so initiatives like SL1M will definitely favour these people,?he said.

Some 2, 000 employment and training opportunities from various companies were offered in the event, which was held on November 18.
