Foreigner gets 15 years’ jail, caning for robbery

KUCHING: The Sessions Court here yesterday sentenced an Indonesian man to 15 years’ jail and five strokes of the rotan for committing robbery.

Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman found Supriadi, 33, guilty of robbing a policeman’s house at Jalan Batu Kawah-Tondong here around 3am on March 11 last year.

He was convicted under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same Code.

Supriadi was armed with a machete when he broke into the house and carted away gold jewellery, cash, gold bars, designer handbags, laptops and other valuables.

The offence was committed with two others still at large.

DPP Ahmad Fariz Abdul Hamid prosecuted, while Supriadi was unrepresented.
