KUCHING: The business community must brace themselves for disruptive changes and adapt to new technologies in carrying out their business ventures.

World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation chairman Tun Musa Hitam said no one wanted changes but to be successful, the business community must be connected with the rest of the world.

“Businesses these days have no boundaries and to be successful, they must get together and talk business,” he said in his round-up speech for the closing ceremony of the forum at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.

“WIEF is pure business and nothing else – the foundation is serious in bringing the business community together and getting experts to share ideas for the benefit of all,” he said.

Musa said he was very proud that the event here was a success, and thanked the state government for giving the forum another milestone of sorts in their journey.

“It is not easy to organise a world conference of this nature, but it is easy to organise it with the Sarawak government.

“This is the smallest city to host such a forum, but it has the biggest turnout and the most successful too. This shows our maturity in bringing an international event with substances that will boost our business community and the world,” he said.

Musa said the forum had also brought together quality participation of speakers and experts in their respective fields to rejuvenate ideas for the business community.

“These speakers and experts gave their best and had shown their quality in discussing issues and subjects relevant to how we conduct business in the future. Most of all, I am proud there are many young people participating in this forum,” he said, disclosing that WIEF has an alumni of 8,500 members.

Musa also thanked his 20 staff at WIEF Foundation for making the event a success.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the state government would continue to cooperate with any organisation or country to make the world a better place to live in and also to uplift the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.

He commended all the speakers and experts, and also thanked the federal government for entrusting Sarawak in hosting the event.

He also urged the international business community to explore Sarawak in the future and continue to embrace technologies beneficial to everybody and adapt themselves to the disruptive changes.

Awang Tengah, also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, hoped that the international participants had a pleasant stay in the state capital, and welcomed them to Sarawak in the future – whether for business or leisure.

Earlier, WIEF Foundation secretary-general Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak read the notable recommendations arising from various sessions of the forum.

He also thanked the state government, the speakers, organisers and sponsors for making the forum a success.
