KUCHING: The state government has approved a further RM15 million to beautify Old Kuching.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state is in the process of upgrading all facilities within Old Kuching.

“We all know that Kuching is attractive now that we have a new product, that is Darul Hana Bridge which attracts many visitors especially at night. Old Kuching will one day become a top tourist attraction in the state,” he said during the Sarawak Hornbill Tourism Award (SHTA) Gala Dinner on Friday.

He revealed that Fort Margherita, which is part of Old Kuching, will introduce garden dining.

Abang Johari said Satok Suspension Bridge has to be rebuilt due to its heritage value.

He advised tourism industry players to change their way of doing business by promoting Sarawak’s rich culture and nature through digital technology.

“I have introduced a new policy in Sarawak where technology is dominant in our economic development for all sectors including tourism.

“I believe the industry has a bright future and as Chief Minister I will support all efforts to further develop this industry,” he said.
