MIRI: A total of 19 rugby coaches from Lawas, Miri, Bintulu and Kuching are currently attending a three-day World Rugby Level 1 15s Coaching Course starting yesterday at SMK Lutong Miri.

Organising spokesperson and Miri Division Rugby Association (MDRA) coach and development officer Sylvia Lian said the course was organised in conjunction with the inaugural Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) Women 7s scheduled for this weekend (Dec 2 and 3) also to be held in Miri.

“We hoped that through skills acquired during this course, the standard of coaching will be further upgraded and practiced particularly during the SRU Women 7s,” Sylvia told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Among the objectives of the course are to support the development of coaches and equip coaches with current and best practice in coaching so they can identify playing positions, methods of scoring and attack and defence besides identifying skill faults.

She added the course was sanctioned by the Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU) and organised by MDRA with the cooperation of the SRU, Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) and Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC).
