KDFA look to strengthen squad

KUCHING: The Kuching Division Football Association (KDFA) are in the process of forming a strong team to carry their challenge in the FAM Cup and Sarawak Cup competitions next year.

KDFA president Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman said the association have identified several new players in the on-going selection process and hoped that the team would be finalised by the end of this month.

“By the first week of December, the team will be undergoing a training programme before we plan to have some friendly matches with our counterparts from Samarahan Division Football Association and the Sri Aman Division Football Association.

“We are not going too far for the friendlies because we are taking a ‘low cost high impact’ approach,” he told reporters after receiving the sponsorship for the Kuching-LSC Football League Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman Cup from Lea Holdings Group managing director Raymond Sim Hee Pang at Lea Sports Centre (LSC) Sarawak Plaza Shopping Complex yesterday.

Also present were LSC senior operation manager Poh Siok Hoon, senior merchandising manager Alice Kho and KDFA vice president Kamaludin Akil.

Fazzrudin, who is Tupong assemblyman, said KDFA was grateful to LSC for sponsoring the trophies, medals and goods vouchers, Adidas balls for the Kuching-LSC Football League as well as the unwavering strong support in KDFA’s efforts in developing football in the division.

“We are always behind football development not only in Kuching but the whole of Sarawak. I hope that through the Kuching-LSC Football League and leagues in other divisions, more good calibre footballers can be produced to represent Sarawak and Malaysia,” said Sim.

Meanwhile, the Kuching-LSC Football League that commenced on Aug 12 will end this Saturday with the final between Yayasan Sarawak Sanjung Atika and KSK Satok to be played at Stadium Negeri at 8pm.

Eight teams namely KSK Satok, Al-Maliza, Academy Axis, DBKU Borneo Island FC, Yayasan Sarawak Sanjung Etika, Muffa FC, Gedong Gator sand Punggur Wibawa Bhd are involved in the league competition.
