Sasa gets RM10,000 boost for international armwrestling tourney

KUCHING: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has pledged RM10,000 in sponsorship for the International Premier 101 Charity Armwrestling Tournament.

Its minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian announced this during a courtesy call on him by Sarawak Armsports Association (Sasa) executive committee members led by its president Matthew Dominic Barin at his  office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya recently.

The Jan 19- 20 tournament is co-organised by Sasa and Premier 101 Community Club.

World armwrestling champion Devon Larrat from Canada is expected to make an appearance at the tournament, to be held at Premier 101 Commercial Centre.

Armwrestlers from Pakistan, India, China, Taiwan, The Philippines, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and Russia among others have confirmed their participation.

Also present were Sasa advisor Datuk Seri Teng Chi Lik and deputy president Stephen Kee.

According to Kee, the tournament is a potential tourist attractions and set to contribute to the economy in the tourism and hospitality sector here.

It would also serves as a prelude to the proposed Armwrestling World Cup Championship 2019 in Sarawak, Kee added.

Meanwhile, Sasa will pay a courtesy call on Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on Dec 14.
