MIRI: Catholic Welfare Services (CWS) is giving food coupons to family members or relatives accompanying patients warded at Miri Hospital.

“It is sad and heart-wrenching to come across some patients having to share the food provided by the hospital with family members or relatives accompanying them while warded due to financial constraints,” said CWS chairman Marcus Hugo after handing over food coupons to the hospital.

Catholic Welfare Services yesterday handed over 1,000 coupons worth RM5,000 to be distributed by the hospital to the poor accompanying their sick family members in the ward or at Anjung Kasih.

“Those accompanying patients may request the coupons from nurses in charge of the wards and the officer at Anjung Kasih. They may bring the coupon to hospital’s canteen for food.

“The coupons are not only for   Christians but for the poor and needy, regardless of racial or religious background,” he said adding the food coupon programme starts this month.
